Once you bake then decorate a cake using buttercream icing, is it necessary to put it in the fridge? Especially if it will be picked up the same day. What about if it's being picked up the next day?

Sometimes I bake 2-3 cakes a week and run out of room in my fridge. I'm just looking for a solution, if not I might have to invest in a second fridge. Although my local bakery supplier said to use the trunk of my car as storage since we are currently having freezing cold weather i.e. -30 degrees. But then what do I do in summer?

Thanks.

If it is just regular buttercream, a cake is okay to sit in a box on the counter for a few days. No need for refrigeration.
