Hi there..
You know those packet cake mixes in the supermarket where you just add eggs and oil.. well those cakes are always so light.. i have not come across a chocolate cake recipe that has oil instead of butter.. can ya substitute the butter for oil in a normal choc cake recipe or will those packet ones have had something else done to them?
thanks for any insight ![]()
hi, not sure about the packet mixes but the chocolate cake recipe I use has oil not butter and it's great can last for 7-10 days still nice and fresh.
Hi nikki,
There are any number of ways to doctor a cake mix and make it taste more like a scratch cake.
Here are a few threads to help:

Janh, How do you do it?! You remember all the past posts! Wow
I change oil from butter in many recipes to make them "Parve" non dairy for Jewish weddings, the chocolate one from cake bible does good. The Yellow and White cakes get a nice consistency but misses a lot in flavor.
thanks so much! that is a great help.. i have been making my ususal cake recipes normally bu wen i run out of time id been using a packet cake mix and someone said how do you get your cakes so light? lol i felt like id cheeted LOL so those links will be very helpful, thank you!
