If I don't have a heating core for the 14x3 round pan, can I use anything else or should I go and get one?

Thanks

Use flower nail..works better than the core if you ask me..no large hole to contend with.

I always wondered if you actually stick the heating core in the cake batter....I guess that answers my question. Do you put the flower nail in your pan and pour the batter on top?

you can do it either way most the time i fill the pan first then crease the flower nail and work it down into the batter with the point up..
the heating your you stick in the batter and then fill the center with batter.. but even tho I greased and floured it
I could never get the cake out of it in one piece to fill up the hole it made in the cake.

One time I was asked to bake up a big sheet cake at work in the catering company I was working for. I had none of my supplies because I didnt normally do that kind of stuff at work. So, no heating core, no flower nail. The only thing I had was the cheapie grocery store frosting bag and tips they'd bought. In a moment of resourcefulness, I distributed 6 of the metal cake tips bottom down into the batter, throughout the middle of the cake.

It worked quite well.

True story.
