OMG!!! I made the All-Crisco buttercream for a client today per her request. She wanted all-white, super-sweet frosing on white cake, just like the average wedding cake.

So, I tasted it.....DISGUSTING!! thumbsdown.gif How can anyone eat that? I'm freaked out that she won't like it.

What about the Snow White buttercream icing in the Wilton books? It's sweet but not that nasty crisco flavor.

Some people like it. Personally, I can't stand any type of buttercreme. Just all way too sweet for me. My teenage daugter will eat it by the spoonful. If that is what she requested, then I would not worry.

I guess everyone's different.

That's the only icing I use...i love it, my family loves it....so she might love it.

I know a lot of people like it.

For flavoring I use vanille and butter. I know it makes a difference. I'm not a fan of using almond in the icing.

Hopefully she likes it!

I use the Wilton but half real butter, not all Crisco.

I make a white buttercream with the hi ratio shortening (NEVER Crisco! Yeck!), water, clear vanilla, butter flavoring, a few drops of almond (it adds something) popcorn salt, merig. powder and 6 x sugar. I beat it slow for a long time (someone here recommended that to me, and I wish I could remember who, becuase it was the best hint I have read on here!) A good 10 minutes. It comes out light and fluffy and not gritty. People love it! (I personally do not like it, its so sweet, but I dont like cake period. I just like to decorate! haha) I think Crisco is too greezy or something funky about it. If anything, get your self some hi ratio shortening. Sweetex, or the other name, escapes me, but they are both the same to me, I didn't notice any difference.

I haven't felt like buying bulk Sweetex yet but I've been starting to buy generic shortening (not Walmart brand, that kind is wimpy, but grocery store brand) because the regular Crisco smells and tastes gross. The grocery generic kind is milder.

My favorite shortening was Snowdrift but I can't find it up here.

I do the same thing, there's a store brand in one of the grocery store that is way better than the Crisco. I bought some Crisco on sale a few weeks ago and made icing, it reminded me why I don't use it for icing.

ok. The cake is delivered. I know that it's what she asked for, but OMG! I didn't use the butter flavor, so who knows. I know that the cake rocks because I ate the part I cut off when I leveled it. icon_redface.gif

She has had my cakes with my regular buttercream, so I hope that this will be ok. She has already said that she wants another cake in March, but we'll see after she tries this one.

and the longer you beat it, the whiter it gets.
