I just wanted to know if anyone had any preferences for coloring pastes/gels? I have always used Wilton since I took the classes years back. I had heard a lot about Americolors so when CC had their lustre dust sale, I added some americolor into my order... I was quite shocked and elated that they came in these little squeeze bottles... I thought WOW, no fuss with toothpicks and getting my colors everywhere, not to mention the leaking my wilton's cause.... so that being said, what is the general consensus on comparability in coloring ability between the 2?

Suggest one over the other?

I only used Wilton because their factory store was close for me to hop in the car & go. But I recently tried Americolor, and love them! Colors seem better and alot less of a mess.

I also noticed Americolor doesn't seem to stain as bad as the Wilton does. I've learned that from experience! icon_biggrin.gif

I'm currently torn between the Americolors and Cake Craft paste colors. I haven't had Wilton colors in a while, but it seems to me that both Americolor gels and Cake Craft pastes work better.

Well after running out of some red one day I went to the cake supply store and learned about Americolor so now I'm stuck....I just can't seem to toss out my Wilton though....I'll just be glad when I have used the last of my Wilton colors.

I use Americolor and Lucks. Love them both. Except for dying fondant. I am having a hard time finding ANY paste colors except Wilton. I did see that CK Products has some and I am going to order them and see how they are. Wilton just isn't as brillant as the others...

I have used both Americolors and Wilton.
The Americolors are great for stronger colors. They don't have any pastel colors though. And they don't have many good greens either (that may be just me though I'm picky adout greens lol).
Wiltons are not good for strong colors, but are good for pastels.
So personally I use both.

I use both. I do not do whole cakes in dark colors if I can help it and I have been able to get dark colors in small amounts for Wilton colors. I actually have problems getting deeper colors in Americolor. It either gets too thin or it starts to seperate.

So I do have both and use both, and it just depends on what I am doing with them.

If the americolor is thinner than a paste, doesn't it thin the icing too much???

Please help! I do not receive all of your posts. Words are missing, so I have no idea which food coloring you like the best. I think I read a post about this happening but I can't find it. Thanks.

I use both but I also like the Americolor for the darker colors. The Americolor doen't seem to have that aftertaste you get with the Wilton colors. I also have some CK colors that come in a tube that I like. What I like best with the Americolor and the CK tubes is you add drop by drop and don't have to fool with a messy toothpick.

Is there any place to order the Cake Kraft colors online (with a great price)?

I would like to stop uosing Wilton colors altogether. I agree that they are much less intense than the other colors!

Just curious, how does Ateco rate with their colors? That's what I have right now, and it seems to work fine for me; but I have not seen Americolor anywhere and did not want to use Wilton. If there is a big difference I'll gladly search them out though.
