If you do a heart cake the strawberry always goes well for me, Is he going to like tie the ring on a fondant bow or something? I didn't understand is the cake just for eating or part of the proposal? Have fun with it and let them eat cake................. icon_biggrin.gif

cake that looks like a ring box with the ring featured on top?? (double layer bottom with top carved to be like the white insert in the box. Sides built up using fondant to create raised side of box -- lid molded and dried fondant)

dog cake w/ ring tied to bow on dog or balanced on dog's nose.

(ever seen the precious moment's take on this? so! cute!!! http://www.annshallmark.com/product_details.php?product_id=104341

-----------------------

cake that looks like a women's hand w/ the ring on it?

I saw on some show where they made this little cake, and then he made a little next cover for it...he took white chocolate or royal icing, can't remember and drizzled it over the bottom of a bowl and let it dry, so it had a little round nest. He put the ring on the little cake and then covered it with the little nest. It was so pretty!!!

I think I would go more with the presentation of the cake. Maybe a heart shaped cake with the idea of the ring box on top. I'm sure your cake will be yummy no matter what the flavor, but once she get's the ring she's going to forget all about the cake....

I have to vote for chocolate!! Valentine's day just screams chocolate to me! Something like devil's food, a nice heavy, moist cake, maybe with Nutella filling and a rich chocolate icing. Mmmmmm. Maybe a chocolate transfer that says "Will you marry me?" or something like that. Hard to say what design would be best... but I definitely say chocolate!!

what about if you carved a cake to look like a big fortune cookie....then use white fondant "coming out" each side for the fortune, and paint on one side "Will you" and on the other end "marry me?" or "Happily..." and "ever after..." That would be cute!

I vote for chocolate too. A nice rich chocolate fudge cake with raspberry preserve filling! Yum! That is a very popular flavor for me anyway.
HTH and can't wait to see the pic!

saw it too.

it was spun sugar ( http://www.cooksrecipes.com/candy/spun_sugar_recipe.html)

then dipped fork into the hot sugar
and then
drizzled it over metal half round form that was well greased (waved fork back and forth as sugar ran off the fork and made threads)....
did this several times to build up the nest.
