Rolled buttercream is a type of covering for a cake. Here is the recipe from CC.

http://www.cakecentral.com/cake_recipe-1603-0-Rolled-Buttercream-Icing-Recipe.html

Some people make it with half butter and half white vegetable shortening.

I haven't had the pleasure of trying it yet.

I tried it once...kinda like working with fondant, maybe a bit softer... Tastes like candy corn...I didnt much care for it. Didnt like the finished look either as well as MMF.

Not part of the post...but I just noticed we last three have late March birthdays...hey, who makes YOUR birthday cake?

I have made Rolled Buttercream and I really liked the taste of it. It is but it isn't like fondant..It looks like it ..but it taste 100% better..However, it is not as durable in that it tears easier than fondant when placing on the cake..so extra care is need in that aspect. My suggestion is to try it on a small 5 or 6 inch cake to see what you think of it..

Thanks guys for replying so quickly.

slb956, I see you are from Tenn, what part, I just got out of a thread which said that Tenn would let you sell cakes out of your own kitchen. I stay in memphis and I was told my house had to be in a commerical zoned area.

Tame:
I love using the rolled buttercream on cookies although I have never tried it on a cake. I follow the recipe that is here on CC and I add about a 1/2 teaspoon of orange flavoring. I do roll it out between wax paper then cut out and put it in the freezer for 10-15 minutes so it is much easier to put on cookie. Hope this helps.

I'm in Tennessee also, Sevierville which is right there with Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg. I would like to know the answer to that also, can we sell cakes from our home kitchens?

ebwmom,
What a wonderful idea..freezing the Rolled Buttercream. I can see how that would really help. and keeping it from tearing when placing over a cake. Thanks for the idea..

standing for jesus - this is totally off topic, but I've been to sevierville/pigeon forge (and gatlinburg) - it's just beautiful there! There is an old mill that is a restaurant where I ate dinner one night, and a car museum there, too. I really enjoyed hiking the trails through the smokey mountains . . . anyway, just wanted to say what a scenic area you live in

Tame: Thank you very much. I'll go on a hunt for that in just a sec.

TKeys: Yes, I'm VERY BLESSED to be able to live here. I'm from Florida and my husband is from here. When he asked me to marry him, he said he could move to Florida and I told him not a chance, I wouldn't marry him if he took me back there, I wanted to live here in GOD'S COUNTRY! LOL
