Why is it that Wilton Creamy White Buttercream Icing Mix uses only 6 tablespoons of shortening but all the Buttercream Recipes use like a whole cup!?
I love the Wilton Creamy White Buttercream Icing Mix because it doesn't taste like you are eating pure Crisco.
I would love to find a recipe that has such a small amount as 6 tablespoons of shortening like the Wilton Creamy White Buttercream Icing Mix. I don't want to have to buy the mix all the time.

Can anyone help me??? icon_smile.gif

Thanks,
Lazy_Susan

Well there is only 2 tablespoons difference between the recipes. Why couldnt you leave the extra 2 tablespoons out of a regular buttercream recipe? You may have to decrease the amount of powdered sugar or add 2 more tablespoons of butter (if you are using a 1/2 crisco 1/2 butter recipe).

2 tablespoons difference between what 2 recipes? Maybe I am just not understanding.

I think maybe she is referring to recipes that call for 1/2 cup of butter and 1/2 cup of shortening.
1/2 cup is 8 Tbsp., so your mix is just using 2 less Tbsp than most recipes. I have never used the mix. What do you add besides the shortening?

I also add whipping cream. I'm at work right now so I don't know exactly how much. All I know is that the mix doesn't taste like crisco. It tastes good icon_smile.gif

Where do you get the mix? I have seen the premade icing in the buckets, but not the mix.
The premade is not cost effective for me.

I bought the mix at Michael's. On the Wilton.com site the cost is $2.99 which is not very cost effective either. That is why I would love to find a recipe that tastes like the mix.

Sorry- its way too early for me to be posting. I was the 1/2-1/2 so therefore I only use 8T. crisco.. meaning only 2 T. difference. New rule for me!!! No posting before 7 am! icon_smile.gif Sorry

I may have to try it just to see how it tastes. I make the 1/2 butter, 1/2 shortening recipe and I use whipping cream for the liquid and it is very rich tasting. I honestly don't like white buttercream, but if you would like the recipe I use, I'll send it to you.

That would be great if you could send me your recipe. Do you like its taste? The mix reminds me of my Birthday cakes of when I was a child. It's the taste that I've been searching for.

I get lots of compliments on the icing, but I am a bad judge of the taste. I just don't care for white icing, at all. Now give me a bowl of chocolate or cream cheese and that is another story....

hehehe I think I am in the same boat as you. I've made the IMBC and other icings that people rave about and I'm just not a big fan of them. However, I have to find a fabulous Buttercream icing in case I get a customer that wants their wedding cake with BC.

I have only made one Wedding cake and that is the recipe I used. I just sent it to you. The only time I really liked it was when I made the Killer Chocolate cake and filled with ganache and Hazelnut buttercream and iced with the white buttercream and then covered the top with more ganache.....
Hmmmm maybe all that chocolate made it taste better to me!!
