I signed up to make a cake for a spaghetti dinner at my daughter's preschool...I was going to do a cupcake cake with a pic of the preschool on it, but then DH suggested a spaghetti cake...he didn't even know that had been done before! I saw a bunch of pics in the galleries. I saw that some people used thinned down jam for the sauce...how about the meatballs? I saw choc. covered cake balls...any other ideas??

thanks!

I used those ferrero rocher chocolate ball things for my meatballs. They have crunchy things around the balls underneath the chocolate, and it makes it look like meat. The pic is in my photos.

i have done this before by using a cake (1/2 ball pan) covered in ivory BC and then covered with piped "spaghetti" using tip 4 or 6. Mound up the "spaghetti" on top and then i added two chocolate cupcakes..unfrosted. BUT, i like the idea of cakeballs better! ANd yes, i used rasp. jam for the sauce as well.

I was also curious as to what to use for meatballs...and I just looked at your pic "jen1977" and your meatballs are great! They look soooo real! Thank you for sharing that tip about ferrero. icon_smile.gif

You can also run your fondant through a pasta maker/spaghetti attachment for the noodles. A strawberry sauce would have a nice bright, red color. All the ideas above sound great!

Thanks guys! Jen - what a cool breadstick! How did you do that?? The ball pan is a good idea, but I need a bigger cake...can I still make it look kind of round with a regular, say nine inch cake, do you think?

I baked mine in a large glass pyrex bowl. It was huge! I actually cut the bottom flat part off because it was too high. I cut the breadstick out of the cake I cut off, and iced it in buttercream, then sprinkled a little sugar on it to look like parmesan cheese. The entire thing was so easy and was very quick to make. I made it as a dessert for a spaghetti dinner, but they didn't serve it! The put it up front with a sign that said "Spaghetti cake: DO NOT TOUCH" I thought it was hilarious! People will think you're a genius!

oh, bummer! I'm told by the spaghetti dinner organizer that the desserts are in the back, and there are multiple seatings, so not many people will see the cake before it's cut, etc. She suggests cupcakes...I suppose I could do mini spaghetti cupcakes??

Those would be cute! You could use whoppers for the meatballs.
