I have become obsessed with scroll work, its so pretty and elegant etc. I tried back in December, and...well it wasn't great. I just tried to free-hand pipe some scroll work on to a very pale yellow cake. Well today I was looking through the galleries at all the lovely scrollwork and turning green with jealousy, when it occured to me that I could "draw the scrolls on first with a toothpick and then go over it with the iscing. Is this how anyone else does it? Or are there scroll type template thingies? Like cookie cutters to press the design into a cake?
Yes, Wilton sells "Pattern Press" sets that can give you wonderful looking scrolls. Here is a link to them from CC, but it looks like they're sold out right now. You can pick them up at Michael's or Hobby Lobby, too.

We used the scroll set for the pink and chocolate cake with the brown bow in my photos. It works great! You can connect them, flip then and make patterns. Much easier than doing it by hand.
