Has Anyone Painted Pillars And Seperators Plates??

I need gold pillars and plates??? Im planning on using the Wilton ones and was thinking about spray painting them ....but not sure this is a safe way to go .....Has anyone ever painted their supports and if so what did you use.....I wouldnt want to poisen anyone!!

I Know it can be done just need to how wyhat method is better spray paint or hand painting or some other method......

just bumping???

anyone.....Ive be think about it and i think that I dont have to paint the plates but definatley need gold colored pillars....its going to be a carousel....
I know they sell the carousel pillars but Im going for more of a vintage look.....

any suggestions?

Could you cover them in fondant and then use luster dust? It would be a shame to color them gold permanently.

You I was thinking that OK once I color I guess thats it.......Ill have to try fondant but it never crossed my mind because I have a hard time wrapping it around wooden doels rods so I guess i just assumed that wouldnt work....I could be wrong.....I may have to expirement.....

I've seen gold ones in a cake mag. but I don't know how they got them gold. Looks like paint. Maybe someone else will have an idea.

I would feel safe in painting my columns , pillars, whatever you want to call them. I would NOT paint the plates. Maybe use the gold foil cake doilies for that? Or the fondant idea maybe braid a band of fondant around the edge of plate and paint with luster dust? Just a thought. Good luck with this one.

This is just an idea, but could you paint them with gold lusterdust mixed with alcohol? I have not used lusterdust at all yet, so I am not sure how effective it would be, but atleast it would be edible amd maybe washable? The luster dust could work, BUT it would have to be after you've already set it up since it would smudge off on handling. I've also had luster dust stain hard plastic - not a great deal, but it still stained.

I think I will paint them and use Kaydays idea..I never thought about using a cake doilie....thats actually sounds like a great idea as Im gonna includes lots of swirls and whimsy designs....
THanks ....I still have two 3 weeks so just preplanning if anyone comes up with anything else Ill would be glad to hear there idea just in case.....
