I just received an order for a cake for this Sunday night for an ordination service for a minister in our church. He wants chocolate cake, white icing with yellow on it somewhere and it needs to feed 100 - 120 people. Any suggestions?

When my FIL was ordained, they gave him a cross on a rope.. That would be nice. Make the cross yellow out of fondant laying it across the cake.
Or maybe you could do a full sheet cake and on top of that you can make the book cake and make it into a bible.. And the cross you can lay it in between the pages of the bible like a book marker. Good Luck!

You can make the book with a sheet cake and then just carve out the page area.

Since I need this cake to feed 120 people I'll do the book pan on top of a double layer sheet cake (torted)...hopefully that will do the trick.

You're not dumb....its probably one of the many words I use that makes no sense to anyone else. I'm going to cut each baked layer in half and fill it so it adds more height.

You don't need to fill the book cake pan. And if your still worried it won't feed all those people. Make a small cross cake (cut out from a sheet cake if you dont have the pan) to go with it, with white icing and make a red sash to go around the center.. I love those colors together.. Good Luck!
And yes you can make that book cake yourself. Just bake a sheet cake, freeze it and get a bread knife. Take it out still frozen and cut at an angle on the sides and in the center. Just don't forget to crumb coat it!
