Anyone Have Any Tips On Sculpting A Face?

Actually I'll be 'forming' a face with rice crispy treats to sit on top of a cake body... all covered in MMF. My problem is I don't know if I should form the nose under the MMF, you know, build up the rice crispy there? I think it may make laying the fondant a little tricky. OR would it be better to 'add' a fondant nose on after the main MMF has covered the head? This will be an upright guy sitting at a desk... I worry b/c I want it to look uniform and I fear the look may be an obviously added nose and not mix in with the rest of the face.
Any suggestions?
thanks!
HI
Is the face lying down or is it upright? If it is lying down, I wouldn't use krispie treats at all. I would make all of the shapes with fondant and then cover the whole thing. Use your hands or dresden tool to indent where needed. Do you know how to make the eyes real? Look at my horse and if you want me to tell you just pm me.
Good luck
I think you could do it either way....make a nose underneath or stick one on top depending on the look you are going for. I've done both, and I did have a little trouble with the nose underneath, mainly because I had too much buttercream under the fondant and it kept squishing around. Also, make sure the fondant isn't too thin so you can stretch it around the nose. If you want more of a cartoonish look I think it's fine to stick a nose on top. This is what I did with my last two baby cakes, just stuck a little button nose on the outside, as you can see in my avatar.
Also, I don't think the RK bumps with show through as long as the fondant's thick enough! Good luck!
