It is a just add water mix and is in a large 5lb bag. I wonder how you could use part of the mix? How many cups of dry mix is in a regular box of cake mix? They have both white and devils food. Has anyone tried it?

It was a just add water mix, I read the packaging and not many instructions, just add water and mix. I wonder if it can be good without the oil and egg?

Seems like it is one of those evertything you need is in the mix type of things.
But I do not understand how much you would need to make say an 8 in. cake

i don't know if this pertains...

but one time my distributer sent me the wrong mix by accident...

it was the same brand but i was used to using mix that took everything....

well the mix they sent was add water only.

THE TEXTURE AND TASTE WAS AWFUL!

so i'm wondering if it will taste as good?

Hey, I tried that exact mix with just water and with oil and egg and it was just ehh. I don't know, maybe I wasn't expecting much and didn't give it a fair shot, but I wasn't blown away. Just my two cents.

The bagged mix that just adds water is just O.K. It is not as good as adding oil and eggs. A friend of mine has a restaurant and she ordered the mix, the cakes were not good. I told her to add some sour cream to it to see if it helped, it did. She finished her case, and has not ordered anymore. Although the price is good, I believe you would be loosing flavor and moistness. I suppose you could always experiment, and add other liquids besides water, or maybe add an egg or a little oil to see what it does.
