I'm making a yellow duck ,and i want to cover the cake board with fondant if i can, maybe add some little "bubbles". but what color would compliment yellow(its mostly yellow with just a itty bit of red to deepen it..)?

Also, if i want the beak to adhere to the cake, how do i do that? I feel like it's going to be a fairly thick beak ,and it will be heavy enough that i have to worry about it falling. What are some ways to make it stick reliably? Will water/buttercream really do the trick?

I've adhered thin peices and decoration with lemon/clear vanilla ,but again they were thin not thick like the beak.

If you are adding little bubbles, why not make it blue to look like water? I also like green with yellow. I did a baby shower cake with frogs and made the base icing yellow. I think the 2 colors went well together.

I was also going to say purple. Either a pastel purple or possibly pink.

blue would look good too.............

so the beak is going to be made of fondant then? stick a tooth pick through and maybe attach it into the cake that way?

Now I didn't see the part about the beak thing (sheesh, rush, rush rush). You can use a piece of spaghetti and poke that into the beak and then into the cake. Then I use corn syrup as my glue.

Maybe i've been inserting it wrong, but every time i try to use spaghetti or something similar to stick a heavy fodnant object on it falls off. The spaghetti is to smooth and i guess loses its support? Same with tooth picks. It all just ends up on my counter..

(don't worry, i edited my original post lol it's not your fault.)

Maybe i'll do a a pink for valentines day coming up? I'm going to be selling the cakes.. so neh. I'm also doing a red and pink bear.. so maybe i shoudl stick to purple for a change?

K try this little trick, dip the spaghetti in corn syrup then poke it in you beak and the cake and see if that helps.

How large will the duck be? This is just a crazy thought---, but--- If the duck is big enough to be proportionate - Could you use an icecream cone and cover it with bc, fondant, or royal icing, but not cover it all the way down. Leave enough of the cone sticking out at the bottom so that you could push it into the cake. Maybe it would be too round? Oh well, my mind is alway running rampid. lol

If you wanted to do bubbles, you could use a nice light blue with maybe a little tint of green. It would go really nice with the yellow duck.

Thanks ,but i already have a pan. The rubber duck pan wilton sells is to large. I have the mini stand up bear, i'm going to convert that to a duck.

A ice cream cone would be to big, thank you though.

I might make myself some fondant sticks with some texture on them to help. thank you.

Thanks for the color suggestions to!

next time you have some royal icing or gumpaste, use the left over to make sticks. When dry you have them for next time for strengthening things like beaks. Just pipe royal icing using something like a no#7 round or larger and with gumpaste you can just make a sausage and twist it. The twist, help give some grip when inserting into cake.
