WOW, that looks pretty big. I just mailed a cake yesterday it was covered in chocolate clay, it is going from NY to IL. we will see how it arrives on friday. I sent it prioity but even with that it takes three days the earliest. This is what I did for my cake. I doubled my cake board, put the cake in a cake box. Wrapped the box with saran wrap for sureness that nothing would get on the cake. Put the cake in a slightly bigger box but not much. Put bubble wrap around the sides, than I had some peanuts I threw on top of the cake box. Sent it out and I am hoping and praying that it gets there okay! Good Luck hope things work out for you!

You can box it up, wrapped in saran wrap with bubblewrap around it. Pack well so it doesn't shift in the box. Mark it on the outside...This side up!!!
Ship it fragile overnite express, using something like Federal Express (they also Pick-Up). A little more costly, but it does work well and the product arrives fresh.

make sure you allow several hours for the fondant to dry and set up so that any moisture is gone and it wont get sticky or smudged up during transit. as well as avoiding the posibility to mold during that time. use a buttercream with mostly shortening so it wont melt as easily (under the fondant).

i forgot to mention...

make sure you get a flat rate box for usps priority. (8.10 for any weight) that way you wont be surprised by high shipping if your cake is heavy. there are 2 sizes to choose from which will help you determine what your cake size must be. i bought a roll of bubble wrap at walmart for $4 and used half of it. i loosed wrapped my dry fondant cake in plastic wrap on its cake board, then wrapped very gently the cake entirely in bubble wrap until the box was completely full...making sure to pad under, all around and on top so there is no room to shift even if it dumped upside down (which i am sure it will be - even if you put up arrows and fragile/perishable stickers on the box- do that anyway as a precaution.)

i made the cake the day before i shipped it. allowed it set up then wrapped and mailed it 2 day priority with usps. it was an experiment so i was conservative on decoration, but next time i will do a bit more since i know it can be done. good luck on yours, what a nice surprise to get such a cool cake in the mail!
