Does anyone have a good recipe for a homemade cake that is moist and stays so? I have recently started decorating but have always relied on a mix. I'm am now getting braver though but most homemade cakes aren't known to stay very moist. I've heard add a package of pudding? Any ideas or recipes would be welcome and appreciated. Thanks!

Buttermilk helps a cake get moist. You can also use a simple syrup, I cannot find my recipe but I know you can use it here. What you do is make your cake and then add the simple syrup to the top, the decorate! HTH

Last week I made a cake for a baby shower and used the "Killer Chocolate Cake" recipe. It was incredibly moist and got rave reviews. thumbs_up.gif

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Crazy Cake is the best darn chocolate cake recipe ever. Incredibly moist, nice and dense, so dark chocolaty yummy. And so freakin easy.

Don't add the cocoa powder (replace it with flour), and add extra vanilla and you have a vanilla cake. Add lemon extract and some zest to get lemon cake. Decrease the oil, add strawberry puree and strawberry jello and you have strawberry cake. The possibilities are endless!

The recipe is posted here on cake central, and on many sites all over the web. It originated in the depression, when staples were in short supply, which is why it doesn't have any eggs or butter.
