All of a sudden it seems like I am getting more air bubbles in my buttercream and the only thing I am doing differently really is to really beat the butter/crisco so it gets really creamy first. I do this before I put in any sugar. It doesnt appear to have air bubbles in it, but I am not sure if this could cause air bubbles?

I do the same thing and I have never had air bubbles, but I have had it get grainy. I wonder if you (me, too) can over beat it to get it creamy?

I would think so...but not entirely sure icon_wink.gif because the longer you beat anything, the more bubbles you will get.

Try turning your mixer down on low for about a minute to get rid of some of the air or use a spatular and gently fold over a couple of times.
