Great question Grama_J!!! I'm glad I came across it cause I'm making one for Sunday and have no clue on how to serve it or how many it'll serve lol. icon_smile.gif

Also have a question about this....

From Wilton Website page about the doll pan: takes 5-6 cups of firm-textured batter.

What would be concidered a FIRM textured batter? icon_redface.gif

I will use my usual recipe... just a regular cake mix, but substitute Mayo for the oil called for....... it is a little more dense, and really moist.....

I have the wonder mold pan I just bought so I haven't made a doll cake or cut it. However, I do have a commission for a cool doll cake in April. I am planning to cut it as such: remove the doll from the center, which will leave a ring-shaped cake. Then cut into thin wedges (because the wedges are so long -- due to the height of the cake.) Those wedges can be cut in half if one desires. Now keep in mind, this is my plan. If someone has a better idea, I'm all ears! icon_biggrin.gif

I would cut it down the middle and slice each section. It depends on how you cut it. I wouldn't imagine that you could get more than 10 servings on it. ( I make larger cuts, though)

I made a scratch chocolate cake and I used cake release on the pan. Baked very well for me and came right out of the pan.

It's a fun cake to make!
Good Luck!

I made two of these cakes a few weeks ago. We took the doll out of the center and sliced in 1/2" slices from the center down. We had 30 guests and cake left over (not everyone ate it) so I would guess that one would serve approximately 15 people. Hope this helps.

I was thinking of cutting it in half from side to side ya know what I'm saying? Then slicing them up into pieces for each person kind of like torting it then serving hoping to get at least 20 slices out of it but have planned to make cupcakes as well just incase icon_wink.gif and plan to make a small sheet cake just incase lol

Well, we got some good replies..... I'll try slicing it that way.... I don't know how many people are going to be there yet....... probably around 20....... I was going to put it on top of a small sheet cake....... do you think I would have to use dowels? I would hate to have it sink into the sheet cake.......

If you are going to set the doll cake on another cake, I would definitely dowel the base cake. The doll cake can be pretty heavy.

Definitely dowel if you're going to put the doll cake on another cake. It's alot heavier than you think!
