My mom was telling me about this type of haircut last night that uses rounded scissors, and you cut the hair after you twist it. She thinks I should get this type of haircut. I've never heard of it, and googled it, but couldn't find any pictures. It's supposed to give some body/curl without a perm. Anyone have this type of cut, know anyone who does, or can direct me to a picture of this type? Thanks!

cutting your hair with special scissors or cutting your hair a certain way is not and can not give you curl that is not there.Your hair curls from the root. Now,if you have some natural curl in your hair already, you can cut it to maximize that curl.Shorten your layers so the weight of your hair doesn't pull the curl down, making it straight. But I promise you, stick straight hair is NOT going to suddenly curl up after being cut with the shears.

Sorry.

I didn't think that it would make my straight hair curly so to say, but my mom had it done, and said that it did give her hair some curl and body. She lives about 3.5 hours away, so I couldn't see her haircut, and was wondering if it did what she said. Thanks for the links! The first one actually ahd more pics!

Waaaahhhhh, I want to look like Fallon's after picture icon_cry.gif

Seriously, in order to get that much curl (perm or helix) - Fallon must have had quite a few layers cut.....

Took me years to grow out my last perm, and I vowed to never do that again!

So who's going to get helixed first icon_lol.gif

Jan...I was wondering the same thing about the layers. My hair is about shoulder length...actually it just touches the tops of my shoulders. I have to do domething to it, or I'm chopping it off again! It's driving me nuts! From what I've read, they twist the hair and cut a little, but not all the way thru the hair about every inch up the twist. It weakens the hair a teeny weeny bit, and makes it want to curl at the weak spots. I wonder how weak it gets, and it it breaks easily at those spots. I also wonder how often you have to have this cut, since there isn't anyone here locally that does the cut according to the Helix website. There is someone at my mom's, but who wants to drive 3.5 hours to get a haircut, lol. I'll see how my mom's hair looks...she loves it!

I just called my hairdresser and she said that is the messiest haircut EVER!!! She said its great if you want to slather a ton of product in your hair daily to achieve the look they promise you . . . but for women like myself who have natural wave, it looks messy messy messy. She said depending on the type of hair, this cut actually promotes more split ends for more course hair types. (Like mine.) Also, if you want to wear your hair straight, it looks terrible . . . the shape is awful. Her recommendation was to stick to a good quality cut with nice layering and you should achieve a similar effect with more shape to it.

I have to agree with emmiepeterson...I have wavy hair that can get quite curly if cut correctly. After seeing that picture I would say that is not possible. If my hair was that long even with all the layers I would need, my hair would have more of a light wavy look as opposed to the curly look the picture represents. The length/weight of the hair pulls down the curl. And yes you would need tons of product to keep the curl, should you be able to accomplish that look. Also, that hair looked kind of dry and frizzy (sorry). With that type of cut, you would definitely get some body/lift into your hair, because of all the layers.

The twisting the hair is not a new technique. I've been out of a salon for year after having my daughter. It must be a new technique but as the other's say it give you body and and enhance any natural curl you may have. My friend/ex boss is a Paul Mitchell educator so I will ask him a bit more about this. I bet it was at the Midwest Trade Show.

Ok...I did it. I got a Helix cut this weekend, and it is the best haircut that I have EVER had! My hair is stick straight, and it does have some curl if I use a diffuser. I just use regular gel, and not much of it. I haven't worn it curly yet...I've been using a large curling iron, and it looks so nice! My hair has NEVER had any body to it at all, and would basically just lay flat at my head, and not hold any curl from rollers or an iron for more than a few hours. It is holding ths style, and has tons of body. I've actually been smooshing it down after I first fix it because it is so big. I was really nervous while she was doing it, but so glad that I did it!

Oh Jen, you must post a picture icon_eek.gif

Please, please, please icon_smile.gificon_smile.gificon_smile.gif

How long did it take and how expensive was it tapedshut.gif

And it gets curlier with every subsequent cut?

I'm not sure about the pic, or getting curlier with every cut, but it is the best haircut I've ever had! I had it done at my mon's, and the lady that does her hair only charges $18 for any cut, including the helix! I've been paying a ton more for haircuts that I never liked! I was there about 45 minutes is all, and that was washing, cutting, and styling! It was very scary to watch though! I was pretty scared before she styled it, thining, what in the world have I done to myself, and how long will it take to grow out!?!? She said I only have to have the "helix" part redone about every 6 months! I'll think about posting the pic. I had an allergic reaction to some facial moisturizer that my mom said I "just had to try", and my face is bright red, roguh, dry, and VERY sore!

$18.00 for a haircut icon_eek.gif

Holy Moly, I see a road trip in my future tapedshut.gif

So sorry about your allergic reaction.... icon_sad.gif

I suffered through a severe poison oak rash last summer which included face, and both hands up to the elbows icon_mad.gif

You have my sympathies!

I was expecting to spend around $60, and she said $18 I almost fell over! I guess that's what she charges for all haircuts! Even with the tip (thatdh always says is too much), it was cheaper than most of my other haircuts!

I think I may call the dermatologist today to see if there's anything I can put on my face. Everything makes my face feel like it's on fire, and it looks horrible!
