Hi paolacaracas ~ I just went to your site since you said you want any help from others with spelling, etc.
I totally cracked up laughing!! LOL Not at your site, but at me not realizing it wouldn't be in English!!!
As for giving help when not solicited . . . I think I would leave it alone.
cakes47...thanks, the gesture is with counts... ![]()
So now Ive been contemplating (a million times) in my head over everything that could possibly go wrong/right with this situation. I keep thinking that certainly family members of this person have visited the website also. Why hasnt anyone brought this to his or her attention? Is this person not the type of person you would want to point something out to? ![]()
okay...PM me who it is and I'll do it for ya!!!
My sentiments, exactly! ![]()

kylesmom...it would be great if the website owner saw the forum. i'm sure you have everyone checking thier own websites now. when i started mine i had several people double check for mistakes. my brother called me many times... i like the tactful way it was worded earlier. i would want to know!!
ok.....is it me?
Okay, you got me curious. If it's my site then I would like to know. I know that I would appreciate it if someone from Cakecentral Pm'd me an let me know. I feel like we're all family here and I would appreciate it. I type so fast sometimes that I do have typo errors.
Jacqui
I get the ribbon for the worse speller.
If someone pointed out misspelled words on my web-site I would be happy.
But, if someone told me I misspelled writing a post I would think that's rude. I know I can't spell and I am not going to look up every other word when writing a post.
But, my website is another story, I need that to look professional
i'm sure you have everyone checking thier own websites now.
LOL -you are soooo right
If it should be my site, I would be very grateful, if someone is telling me. I double checked and several members here helped me, to get rid of the mistakes when it was new.
I also say tell whoever it is, but in a nice way. I would want to know if I had a site.
You're all cracking me up right now with all of the "is it me?" In truth, I wish the person would see this post and either offer their opinion or check their site like it seems everyone else has. ![]()
I'm sure that I'm not alone in feeling like we're all kind of a family. A family made up of cake addicts, but a family nonetheless. Im sure thats why this is weighing so heavy on my mind. Like you, I only want the best for my fellow CCers. I think Im going to just pm this person and in the nicest possible way make them aware of the situation. If the shoe were on the other foot, I would much rather a fellow CCer point it out to me vs. a potential customer. Wish me luck!
I definitly think you should let them know, might want to first point out something positive about the site, then mention by the way I noticed, blah, blah, blah.
I'd want to know, esp. if it is a site for customers.
I havent read all the replies so some one else may have suggested what m about to. I would just pm and start by telling the person you found their website and you think it looks really great but you just thought you'd let her/him know that you saw a few mis-spellings and thought he/she may want to know....you can add that you just want to be helpful and let them know just in case they hadn't caught the mistakes yet themselves. Then end your messages w/ a kind statement again like ..."great website, I enjoyed it."
How does this sound?
I had the pleasure of visiting your website today. It is obvious that you are working diligently to create an informative, elegant, and well-designed website for your customers. While I was browsing through your gallery of beautiful cakes, I noticed that there are a few words that were inadvertently mistyped. With respect to our common interests, I wanted to let you know about these omissions. You will find the words I am talking about highlighted below. I hope that you do not take offense to me bringing this to your attention. I only want to help and support my fellow CCers. Again your work is wonderful and I appreciate the opportunity to interact with you on CC.
You spelt callous wrong in your original post (a callus is a hard lump of skin, callous is cold and unfeeling.) So how did you feel when I told you that? ![]()
Seriously though, I did email someone whose web-site I read and found lots of spelling and grammar mistakes. It was cake web-site, I worded it very carefully, said how much I admired their work and since then we email regularly to see how each of us is getting on - she said he dyslexic husband had done her site and he emails me now too!!
I also PM'd someone on here who had refered to a 'spaz' ina jokey way, however I find that word offensive and felt she should consider this when posting. I spent ages agonizing about whether I should pm her or not. She didn't take it very well but I feel that if people sit silent while people talk thoughtlessly it allows it to carry on.
I've also emailed a company selling t-shirts which had you're instead of your. Actually - I AM dreadful about contacting people aren't I?!!! Comes of being a teacher and finding my red pen twitching every time I see errors anywhere!
The wording of your email is friendly and should go down fine. I'd appreciate someone telling me if anything on my web-site was incorrect as I don't want to look foolish in front of everyone. It takes a friend to stop that happening I think. We're on your side!
If/when I ever get a website and a fellow cc member emailed me about a typo, I would be soooo greatful. I believe that we are all on this site to help one another and give/take advice, etc. I really think you should tell pm them and let them know. Wouldn't you want to know? ![]()
I sent a message to a member who had misspellings on her website. I hope I didn't come off as rude (she thanked me), but I'd rather do the right thing than not do anything.
I'd keep it short and to the point - no need to sugarcoat it.
"Hi, I was checking out your website and found a couple of words they may have been misspelled. (List errors). Thought you might like to know! Have a great day!"
That's all that's really necessary - you don't have to build them up just to point out a few silly spelling mistakes... are we all that insecure?
"That", not "they"... see how easy it is to make mistakes? ![]()
I just can't imagine anyone being upset, I would be very grateful!!!However, yes, I was in the spelling bees in school so spelling errors are one of my big pet peeves, especially from a professional. I used to work in retail as a cashier and the assistant store manager couldn't spell worth a darn...and she made big bucks! That annoyed me greatly
If you feel uncomfortable about telling this person, consider letting the other CC'er who offered to send the pm to them.
