As above. I need to bake a cake for daughter's birthday, party being this Saturday. It won't have fondant but will be fully covered well in buttercream. If I make it tomorrow will it still taste as good by saturday? Does covering with simple syrup help keep it moist in people's experience? TIA x

thursday to saturday ought to be fine -- assuming it will be completely covered in icing and boxed -- but preferably refrigerated -- and i would slide the box in a plastic bag or wrap well in plastic wrap too -- make sure there's no cut onions, smelly fish, spaghetti sauce, garlicy-ness going on in the fridge --

as to how long the cake will ultimately last again it depends on how it is held -- well wrapped a week,  ten days in the fridge --  frozen it will last for many months
