I was reading about this and wondering if you have tried it. Do you use it to add to fondant/gumtex and then add fixodent?? Also is it the powdered form or the toothpaste type? Does it help the flowers dry harder or faster?

Any insight is helpful!

I haven't tried it, but it is my understanding that you use the powder form of it. You will use it in place of gum-tex as it does the same thing.

Thank you!

I need to check one more place, but so far I only see toothpaste style Fixodent.

Thanks!

Some recipes for flower paste or modelling paste ask for tragacanth, which is not easily found. One CCer said(don't remember who) that it could be substituted with CMC (carboxymethylcellulose). It can be bought as CMC, but she also said that Fixodent is CMC used for cleaning dentures.
My two cents.

That address will take you to the fixodent web site. Fixodent is a brand of dental adhesive use to keep dental plates (False teeth) in place.

Hey Kim,

You are so sweet...the check is in the mail icon_lol.gif

Seriously, Fixodent is great added to MMF. Yes, it dries it faster and harder. You have to use the powder form (regular or super).

Wouldn't recommend eating it or covering the cake. This is only used for making decorations that need to be hard thumbs_up.gif .

It's no more or no less edible with Fixodent. IMHO, gumpaste is one of those things that IS edible, but who'd want to???? Fixodent is just CMC with flavoring. It's a gum used in a lot of commercial applications...gravies, baked goods. Lots of things. We're most familiar with it when it's disguised as Tylose. It makes rock hard gumpaste, and many people use it to make fondant stronger. I've only used it in gumpaste and it DOES make it hard! Not sure how hard the fondant gets. But, yeah...you CAN eat it, if you're into hard, crunchy sugar. It imparts a decided minty flavor and fragrance. Not a bad one...but it is definitely there.
