Our local grocery stores stopped selling my favorite kind of cake last year. It is the DH cherry chip cake mix. I recently found it on the internet and they wanted 3.49/box!!!!!!!!! I think that is insane. If anyone has a good recipe for this could you direct me in the right direction. My sister knows a lady who bakes wedding cakes and cherry chip was her most requested cake so when she found out they were not going to carry it anymore she went to all the grocery stores and bought every box!!!

That is not a flavor I have ever seen in California, but I would love to try it if someone finds it online!

I am so excited. I was just looking at our online grocery store and it showed that they have the BC brand of cherry chip. I may have to run down and get one to see if it is as good as the DH brand. icon_biggrin.gif

I haven't ever tried this flavor but have seen it on a regular basis at our local Wal Mart stores and they sell them for .98c a box!! If they weren't so heavy to mail, I'd send you all you want!

What about flat rate box? It is only $8.10 for whatever you can fit inside the box. You could take one to the store and see how many you can fit in the box. Don't know if they are up to paying the cost of cake mix and than the $8.10 for shipping, just an idea. Gonna have to try this mix.

Ask the grocery if they will special order it for you. The larger stores will order things, especially if you want them by the case. I've never known it to cost any more, and sometimes they'll even give 10% off. (the case price)

My great grandmother used to make an "ambrosia cake" with the cherry chip cake mix and they stopped carrying it here too. When she passed away, that cake pretty much passed away too. My grandmother (her daughter) was in a Target in our area (I think she said it was target), and found the cherry chip cake mix. I'm not sure of the brand. She used it to try and replicate the cake and it tasted just like everyone remembered. The icing has chopped maraschino cherries in it, coloring it pink, coconut, and pecans. There may be some crushed pineapple too, but no oranges. It is very sweet but so good! The pecans help break up some of the sweetness.

Thanks for all the ideas. I am going to check out the grocery store. And if they don't have it off to Walmart I will go.

You can send Clippy to hell for good...I turned him off somehow...I'd try to find out how if it weren't for the remote possibility that I might turn him back on again. icon_smile.gif

You can get rid of the Office Assistant.....go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, pick Microsoft Office and change.....depending on the version you have you go find Office Assistant and remove it.
That thing makes me crazy! icon_surprised.gif

I use the Betty Crocker Cherry Chip all the time. I thought they were the only brand that had that flavor because around here I have never seen the Duncan Hines. Anyway, it works great for me and everyone that has it loves it so give it a shot.
Good luck,
Heather
