How full do you fill a 2 inch deep cake pan? I have 1 /1/2 in. deep and then a wilton 8 inch x 2 in. deep.  I dont want my cake overly thick or not being able to cook.  Do you fill the 2 inch deep pans 1/2 full?

The rule of thumb is 2/3 full for a 2" pan and 1/2 full for a 3" pan.  If you want thin layers, you can surely add less batter, but there will be no problem with them baking correctly.  Some people bake in 4" pans and torte the layers into three layers with no issues.  Personal preference.
