Decorating Pineapple Cake Advice

Hello! I am thinking about making a cake that is decorated to look like a pineapple, as cheap as I can $. I was wondering if anyone had any advice as to how to make the eyes and mouth and then also how to get them to stick to the cake. And lastly how to go about making the green cake topper. My ideas are to use vanilla almond bark to make the eyes and mouth (just because I can use the almond bark for other projects). And then maybe using green construction paper for the cake topper, because it would be cheap LOL. Also, I’m not experienced with fondant at all.
This is for a decorating competition where all I have to do is take a picture with it. I thought the pineapple cake was cute, not sure if it’s good enough to win haha
It is a cute cake. My first thought is to pipe the eyes and mouth with black royal icing, but my experience with royal is limited and I don't know if it would soften from the moisture in the buttercream frosting. My second thought is to use fondant stiffened with Tylose, but I know the moisture from buttercream can soften fondant. Since the design only has to hold up until you can make photos, this is not a big concern. Your idea of using candy bark is a good one because it will not be affected by moisture. I suggest using Wilton Candy Melts in black, or I guess you could use chocolate candy bark. Melt the chocolate and pipe the eyes and mouth onto a non-stick surface and let them dry thoroughly. Remove carefully and use a tiny bit of melted chocolate on the back to stick it to the cake.
For the green top you can also use green Candy Melts. Melt the chocolate and spread it with a spatula onto a non-stick surface. With the end of a paint brush, or other rounded tool, draw the leaf shapes and let the dry. You can achieve movement by draping the sheet over a rounded surface, length wise, before the chocolate sets up. When dry, carefully remove and apply to the top of the cake using more melted chocolate of the same color.
You could also use wafer paper for the top, but it would have to be airbrushed to achieve the green color. You can use construction paper, but be sure the rules of the contest do not forbid the use of non-edible materials. Even if they are not forbidden, the judges might give more points for using only edible materials. It depends upon the type of competition and the judges. Most cake competitions do not allow the use of any non-edible materials which will be visible.
