I have never made one, and I have an order for a bridal shower in a couple of weeks..... What is the best cake to use..... can I just use my regular recipe, or do you have to use a pound cake or anything like that ? Thanks everyone.......

I have made them with my regular cake not poundcake.. she stuck in just fine... but take a poll everyone else may say different.. my customer requested fondant as the dressing area, so that could have been why! Good luck.

I always use pound cakes because I prefer them. Unless you are loading the dress up with a bunch of fondant you will probably be fine either way. My only recent doll cake problem was keeping the doll from leaning, but I think that has to do with the size of the pick and not the cake itself.

I used a yellow cake mix doctored and a basic chocolate scratch mix - both were fine but I didn't use fondant.

Good luck!!

I've made many doll cakes with a sponge cake recipe and the doll stands up just fine. I use buttercream to cover the cake.

If you use the Wilton wondermold or mini wondermold pans you probably won't have to do any cutting. At the most just the very bottom needs to be leveled sometimes so it sits straight.
