Can I Put Wilton Decorator Fondant On A Cake Mix?

My son has this school project that requires them to bake a cake and decorate it like a artist. Would it be okay if I got cake mix for example a Betty crockers and put Wilton Decorator fondant over it ?

Sure!  If you want to make the fondant taste a bit better, knead in a couple of tablespoons of the extract of your choice.
