Hi, I am looking to make the cake in the picture for my wedding. It will be a dummy cake and I was hoping someone had ideas on how I would make the gold decorations please? Many thanks
I would make them from gum paste or pastillage, cut the appropriate shapes and use a comb to create the wave pattern. On second thought, it would be easier to roll out a good sized piece of gum paste and make the pattern prior to cutting out the individual pieces. Do this far enough in advance that they can dry completely, at least a week. You can use fondant with tylose added, but it will need a longer drying time. Paint them gold using gold luster mixed with vodka. You can do this before or after applying to the cake. If before, allow plenty of drying time, a couple of days. Melted chocolate (in the color of the cake frosting) would make a great adhesive to apply the gold pieces or royal icing.
I had another thought....the gold things may be made out of melted chocolate.
