Wrinkles / Creasing In Gumpaste When Making Figurines!

Hi All,
So I am making a figurine stand up topper for a cake I'm doing. I was using gumpaste for this. The problem is, every time I roll my ball I get creases / folds in the ball which then show in the figurine. It doesn't seem to matter if I rub in Crisco / shortening, mix in a little bit of fondant, add a fresh piece of gumpaste etc...nothing seems to get rid of the creases and line in the ball.
I was browsing old posts on the CC forum as this question has come up, but I haven't really seen a solution to this? I guess it just comes to technique and lots of practice? I've had this issue sometimes when rolling out fondant to put over cakes, but I find it's worse when working with a ball which needs to be shaped into a figurine?
Any tips would be much appreciated. This is driving me crazy!!! TIA
Gum paste drys much too fast for making figurines. A better choice is fondant with tylose added, or if you do not have tylose, mix your fondant with about a half portion (2 parts fondant, 1 part gum paste) of gum paste. My medium of choice for figures is modeling chocolate, which comes with its own learning curve, but can be worked for a much, much longer time and made beautifully smooth.
Thank you Sandra. I initially was using fondant and mixed in Gum-Tex as I couldn't find Tylose here and it was way too soft to work with. I also found Gum-Tex changed the color of the white fondant and was grainy.
I will try the 2:1 ratio of fondant to gumpaste as I bought a tub of it lol and see if that helps. I always assumed fondant didn't dry hard enough for "fatter" figurines which is why I bought gumpaste.
If you fondant/gum paste mixture still seems too soft, add more gum paste. It should work. Good luck!
