Hi everyone, I got an e mail last night to do a cake for Friday, and they want an ice skater theme. So, I was thinking of doing a cake with a figure of an ice skater on a rink.

This is the cake that I like. http://www.bakemeacake.net/birthdaycake09.html
I'd like to do a figure standing up on skates...but what did they use for the legs and arms?? I'm not sure how to do this one. Also, is the figure just standing on top of the cake or is there some kind of support going down into the cake?

Thanks!!!
Courtney

You could use spaghetti or other long thin noodles as a base for fondant to make the arms and legs if you want it to be all edible. Or you could use bamboo skewers, or even thick florist wire. Gumpaste would probably be stronger than fondant for the long skinny arms and legs as it dries harder. It is a really pretty cake, good luck interpreting it!

I'm not a expert but here it goes: The figure is probably made from fondant, gumpaste, MMF or a 50/50 combo of two of these. They all can be made or bought. The fig is probably too heavy to stand on it's so they probably have a skewer or some sort of stick thru leg for support, otherwise transporting could be a mess...LOL!
I've been doing alot of research on figure modeling and ther is so much to learn, GOOD LUCK!

To me it looks like sucker sticks or toothpicks covered in fondant?!?

Just a guess! Good Luck!

Thanks for the help! I don't have any lollipop sticks but I do have skewers and florist wire, so I'll probably just try those and hope for the best. icon_lol.gif
