Hi there!
I'm Erinn and I'm new here! In a month or so I'm doing my first three tier wedding cake. The venue is about 40 minutes away, I'll be transporting in my mini van and I can't stack on site - the decoration is too much for me to feel confident doing it there. I'm wondering if anyone has used a Cake Safe to transport larger cakes - and what you think of it if you have? It's an investment but if they really work as well as they claim to I'm thinking about going for it.
Yes, they are expensive But wouldn't be without mine now. Very scary the first time you use them and have to push the metal rod through your cake but they really are as good as they claim. A few weeks ago I travelled for over a hour with a fully decorated 4 tier in the boot of my car and a semi naked 3 tier perched at an angle on my front seat and both cakes arrived in perfect condition.
They are expensive, but totally worth it. I bought mine when my stepsister was getting married and had to transport her cake about an hour away. We didn't expect the horrible heat wave that hit that weekend. Plus, it was labor day weekend, and the traffic in the Bay area was awful. It took us close to 4 hours (instead of an hour) to get to the caterer where it would be kept overnight. And, it was over 105F.
The cake made it without a hitch. Looked perfect when I dropped it off. Picked it up the next day and took it out of the Cake Safe and set it on the table and added the decorations.
If I get busier, I'll probably invest in another one.
I am no longer in business, but when I was I had 3 Cake Safes. I considered it the best thing I ever did for my business (and piece of mind when delivering). When I closed my business I sold my 2 large ones and kept my small one. I highly recommend it. I traveled in my metro area every weekend, and as far as 2 hours away for a family gathering. There were no hitches and I was not worried the whole time I was driving.
