I'm making a gingerbread rapunzel's tower and I need to cover the turret roof in purple shingles. The roof already has purple fondant, but it is smooth and would look a lot better with some detail. I can't do anything to the existing fondant as it has set very hard.

I thought wafer paper would look good maybe, but I can't find anywhere that stocks it.

Should I used gum paste instead? I am trying to avoid making the roof too heavy, it is already quite heavy for its size.
