Hi,

Does anyone have a recipe for a homemade light not-to-sweet and fluffy frosting. I am looking more for the type of icing that is on supermarket cakes that is called 'whipped'. I don't care for the cloyingly sweet traditional buttercream. I am looking for a recipe that using powdered sugar versus a cooked flour version.

Thank you!

you can add white balsamic vinegar to regular American buttercream as a flavoring — at least a tablespoon or two and it cuts the sweet and it becomes tangy just like cream cheese icing without any refrigeration hassles — good stuff

but it’s only as fluffy as you make it

I think any icing made with powdered sugar is going to be sweet.  Swiss Meringue Buttercream is a lot less sweet and is smooth and silky.

-K8memphis, my husband found White Balsamic Vinegar for me!!!  The stuff is delicious!
