Hi all!  I have a chilled crusted buttercream frosted cake that I’m going to put fondant peanut splats on.  The party is this afternoon and I’m attaching the fondant a few hours before.  My question is do I need to let the cake warm up before I put the decorations on? Or can they go on a cold frosted cake? Just concerned about sweating effecting how they stick. Thanks!

I've added decorations to a cold cake and had no issue with them sliding as the cake warmed up.

I add decorations to chilled buttercream, and then box the cakes before returning them to the fridge.  Later, when it's time for the cakes to come to up to temperature, the condensation forms on the box and not the cake. Either way, I wouldn't expect you to have problems with how it sticks. Fondant gets stickier as it gets wetter.
