Hey Everyone! I’m pretty new to baking but I’m starting to venture more into the decorating realm and this year is the first birthday I’ll be celebrating with my husband as my husband and he originally wanted to go to animal kingdom but our Disney passes are blocked out for that day so I thought I’d make him this to kind of give him the feel. I am having trouble finding and figuring out what to use for the animals and branches/vines on the side of this cake! I only have one day to work on it as it will be my only day off where he isn’t around so if anyone has any advice on what to use or where to get moldings for them? That would be so APPRECIATED! Thanks in advance! My Husbands Birthday Cake! Help!

depends on how big you want the cake -- these are chocolate molds and the animals will be about 2" big give or take -- the whole mold is 9x7 -- as a professional cake decorator -- I would not attempt a cake like this in one day -- could it be done -- sure but to do it comfortably it should be done over a few days --

because you are a new member you probably won't be able to "reply" to posts however you can start a whole new thread to reply and continue the discussion if you want

can you get the cakes baked in advance and freeze them? that would help a lot --

there's a bunch of great molds on etsy

you can use fondant to put in the molds -- but you want to do them in advance so they dry out and are not flexing on you --

this giraffe in the link is about 4" tall so if you make the bottom tier about three inches tall you can get the same look as your picture -- that supplier on etsy has the elephant and lion too -- so those molds would be about  $25 plus tax/shipping --

the tree you could do yourself -- just roll out sausages of fondant and texture them accordingly -- leaves are pretty easy to cut out -- the leaves could be done in advance or not -- the tree could be done day of so it will lay/lie exactly as you want it too --

you would want to knead in some cornstarch into the tree fondant if not all of it actually so it sets up and dries better -- has some body to it -- so the tree doesn't just look like it melted on the side of the cake --

if you are doing a cake mostly just for you guys as opposed to a large family gathering you could do a 6 x 3 inch cake each three inches tall as well -- this 6x3 would serve about 14 people though --

what do you think -- got any questions? start a new thread
