I'm making an ice cream cake in advance. The recipe I'm following says you can cover the cake on whipped cream frosting and freeze it till the day of the party. It advises to cover the cake in cling film once the whipped cream has hardened a bit in the freezer and re-freeze.

Does this sound about right:? Will the cake be ok straight from the freezer? I'm ok with the frosting being too hard to cut through, I just need it to be intact and not split or anything.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, I've frosted ice cream cakes with straight Cool Whip and it re-freezes great.

Whipped cream frosting will not get too hard to cut when frozen.
