Hi!

I need to make a stew/soup in a pot as cake in couple of days. I would like to see if anyone has had experience making such cakes.

I need to create that liquid like, glossy top for the stew and the vegetables(carrot, peas, etc) floating in it.

I think i have to use gelatin(or piping gel) on the top and place my vegetables made of gum paste in it.

Now my questions are:

1- Would the vegetables melt in the gelatin or piping gel?

2- Which one is better to use? The gelatin or piping gel?

3- Can I just use the mixture of vodka and corn syrup(the one we use for making stuff shiny), or confetcioner's glaze instead?

Many thanks;-)

You could use modeling chocolate to make your veggies and they would not be damaged by either piping gel or gelatin.  However, I doubt that they would be harmed, if allowed to cure for a few days, if they were made of fondant or gum paste.

I watched a video of a baker making a soup pot and she used lemon curd as the "broth."  Not sure of the flavor of your cake but this could be a good direction if the flavors work.
