Come on decorators HELP! How much should I charge to have beg.Cake decorating classes & make a profit?. I think it sounds better to provide supplies. However, suggestions? Should parents pay a fee, thn purchase $30-$50 supplies? Cake Supply & Hobby shops charge a minimal $15-20 per person BT that's because they knw custIomers will buy the supplies frm Thm! My concern is making a profit bt affordable for the prep is time & cleanup & classroom time, shouldn't this all be considered? (To me it may be simplest to decide your hourly rate & I'd say min.$25 hr for teaching only 1.5-2hr class, Bt that doesnt address supplies?) For as much as I love teaching, bt need to make a profit!! Im thinking 1X a week 2hr with no more thn 8-10 kids age 7-12 to start that I can handle alone (I may have a helper frm time to time$$. I'd also have to pay $60 per day/use in one place. Do I have to have Insurance if not requested or can I wring it for several monthd? Iv also thought "theme classes are easiest & would vary based on cake doing. Bt would go well aftr I've proven myself to parent & kid! OR should i push an organization pay me an hourly rate & they purchase all supplies? Can anyone suggest an easy Proposal Template?
That's a great idea. First rule of thumb for ANY business is protect yourself. Check to see if your insurance, business or homeowner's , covers you teaching in a different location. I can't stress how important having insurance is, it only takes one incident to ruin you. I don't mean to be a fuddy duddy but I worry about such things. As for the class it would be much easier if parents only had to pay one set fee for everything that included your time and supplies. Parents could just drop off their kids off for a fun time . A theme class would be the way to go. Wish you all the best and let us know how it goes.
