Boooohooooo! Well, at least they will be back next year. What a shame to break a 153 year tradition.
I saw that story too -- but I also saw the small boxes for sale in my StopnShop - that means one of two things - THEY ARE FROM LAST YEAR or someone else is also making them. I'm voting "A" - yikes! I will check that out on my next trip to the market (as my grandmother used to say)!

too funny, t -- "from last year" -- I mean it says it takes them all year to make enough for valentine's -- they are hard little rocks anyway -- who would know bwoowahahahahaha
s, 153 years -- dang that's even older than me /us (i'm almost 68-- hanging on for dear life to 67 ) hahahaha
but all that to say perhaps for anyone still brave enough to make special cakes for valentines to sell -- some cute little easy peasy cakes that look like those sentimental favorite candies would go a long way maybe --
