I had a customer request this cake with buttercream and fondant decorations only.  Is there a way to get the fondant decoration of the Hulk's shirt  to adjere and stay on bottom half of this cake, if it is not covered in fondant and using buttercream?Hulk Cake

You can definitely add the fondant "shirt" strip directly to buttercream.  I would just make sure to not make the strip too thick because if it is too heavy it could possibly slide down so just keep it thin and it should be just fine.

Also if you are using a crusting buttercream and the buttercream crusts before you can add your fondant then just get yourself a spray bottle with some water and give your cake a light spray before adding the fondant strip.

I don't see why not.  The only thing I can think is that you won't want to spritz your cake (for fear of the water causing the airbrushing to run/bleed) but rather use piping gel or a bit of water on the back of the fondant strip to attach it to the cake.  But I have never used fondant on airbrushed buttercream so maybe there might be other issues I am unaware of.
