https://www.recipetineats.com/vanilla-sponge-cake/

This recipe has given me the best base for a layer cake in terms of lightness and moistness. However, the author calls it a sponge cake but, correct me if I'm wrong, the large amount of butter in it would disqualify it as such, no?

I just want to be able to tell people the kind of cake that I prepared.

Thanks!

The recipe is similar to one from my great grandmother.  She called it a Half Pound cake.  She used cake flour instead of adding corn starch.  If it is even close to her cake it will be delicious.

It’s quite close to a Victoria sponge which uses equal weight of butter, sugar, flour and eggs.
