Hi guys, I baked a white vanilla cake yesterday. Recipe called for 2, 9 inch pans...

I have 9inch pans that are 3inch deep... I spilt the batter equally between the 2 pans... my cakes were 1inch tall only... I really wanted to make tall layers to frost a tall cake...

Can anyone please advise... ideally I wanted the cakes to be 2inch tall each.. did i not use enough rising agent?  or could I have done something wrong in my technique? Alternately are they supposed to be only an inch high??

The recipie shows images and layers look deep.. I am new to baking and felt deflated as i followed all instructions.

Any help would be appreciated as i want to make a unicorn cake for my nieces 1st birthday x

bake off the exact same thing and have a four layer cake the height you want by using all four cakes

Exactly my first thought, -K8memphis.

As far as what you did wrong, probably nothing if the cake tastes OK.  If you want to use this recipe, next time use 8" pans, but if I were you, I'd probably use a different recipe.
