I am making an 80th birthday cake next month. I have had the idea to make him a scotch bottle cake that sits in a box also made out of cake. I am modelling it after an extremely rare bottle that comes in a wooden box with a lid that has hinges, I am wanting it be as realistic as it can be. My question is has anyone attempted to make an edible working Hinge? How did it go? Is there a tutorial out there somewhere?

I live in Australia so its going to be hot and humid so am trying to stay away from using chocolate.

no i don't think i've ever made a working hinge but i've made hinges --

heat and humidity are not your friends to make something like that -- although it sounds really cool -- what if the bottle is standing up in the box and box is already opened?
