So far I've been using inserts inside cupcake boxes when i deliver my cupcakes..is this a necessary step? Someone recently gave me a dozen cupcakes as a birthday present from another bakery, and the cupcakes were placed side by side in the box..without an insert.

Am i missing something?

Thanks!

For me, as long as the cupcakes are packaged well so that they 1) don't slide around in the box when moved and 2) when placed against each other the frosting doesn't get messed up then I see no reason to use inserts.  But if not using the inserts would cause issues with they way you frost your cupcakes and/or the inserts just make you feel more confident when delivering/packaging your cupcakes then keep using the inserts.  Basically it comes down to what you feel comfortable with and what works for your cupcakes.
