I am making a batch of cupcakes with buttercream icing and want to place edible flowers (small, pansy type flowers) on top to decorate. If I place these directly on top of the buttercream icing and they are kept in the fridge until the event will they be ok for 24hrs? Or do they need to be placed on right before serving?

I would wait until just prior to delivery or, better yet, serving.  I've only applied gum paste to buttercream once, but it melted.
