Hey need some help I have a cake to make for Friday, it has scolls details on the sides, I thought I would try and save myself a bit of time and make the scrolls out of fondont ahead of time... So I have my scrolls made and they look beautiful, but my problem is I didn't put them in an airtight container and they have gone a bit hard.. With them being hard they will be easier to apply to the cake, is there any way I can soften them a small bit so they are not too hard or will they be OK when applied to the cake? Cake making and decorating is just a hobbies for me and something I love to do but I do like o try an perfect as much as possible.. I know I could of use a piping bag to do the scrolls but I'm not confident enough with the bag so choose to use fondant.. Can anyone help??

I have dealt with this before and was able to find a few helpful tips from some of the other members. You can wet the back slightly with water and it will get softer, or you can even place the pieces in the microwave for just a quick moment. I used the water method and it worked wonders for my fondant pieces.

Good to know, Gigglebox2014.  I've always kept mine in a Ziploc bag, but who is to say I will not forget!

If the stiffness allows the correct positioning on the cake without softening, go ahead and place them.  The moisture from the buttercream - is it buttercream??? - will soften them.  If you are placing the trim on fondant, I would recommend, as Gigglebox2014 suggested, dampening the back of the pieces slightly.  They will need to be dampened to stick to the cake anyway.
