I am making Fornite loot chest out of cake. I am going to have some wooden panels on top but there is a slight over hang off the edge of the cake. Like jagged wood. Can I do this with just fondant? Will the edges stand straight or will they wilt under their own weight. The over hang won’t be more than a half an inch on either side. Should I leave the fondant out to dry on a tray before applying on the cake or should I use gum paste mix/cmc/modeling chocolate mix. What will give the best results?

It looks like there is a support (looks like iron) under the overhang.  You could use fondant for the wood and pastillage or gum paste for the iron.  That way the fondant would be resting on a firm support.  That cake looks like so much fun to do!  Good luck!
