Hello I am new to fondant covered cakes and I have a question. I am covering a chiffon cake. The itailan buttercream that I made did not mix well and is not as smooth as it usually is so there are a few rough patches on the top of the cake. Will this effect how smooth the fondant will sit on the cake.

I know the normal rules say you should get your buttercream layer perfectly smooth but I have found that small imperfections are not an issue when covering with fondant and used my smoothing tool. But then again i don’t refrigerate my cakes cakes either befor covering with fondant so I break all the rules !

I agree with Debbieshobby, small imperfections should not be a problem.
