For my birthday I want to make a cake similar to Cupcake Jemma's Chocolate Caramel Pretzel Cake -- it has pretzels on top of the cake in a mound of buttercream.  I would also love to put some broken pretzels in between the cake layers.  But I've put pretzels on top of buttercream-frosted cupcakes before and they've gone soft overnight.  How can I protect against this?  If I dipped pretzel pieces in chocolate, would they stay crunchy in a buttercream filling?  Anyone tried this?  Thanks

I've never tried it, but I would go with chocolate or candy coated pretzels in between the layers and for the topping, just do that last minute.  Yum!  Happy birthday.

I would say that, that is your best bet! I’ve never had a soggy chocolate pretzel.
